Fundamentals Suited to Every Genre
Regardless of Your Goals, We Can Help
Some of our students want to play Rachmaninoff's third piano concerto, while others want to play Coldplay by ear. Still more students want to play collaborative piano, participate in worship, play holiday tunes, or join a band. The skills we teach will help you reach all of those goals. You will learn to read notes in the bass and treble clefs, identify time signatures, recognize chord patterns and key signatures, read accidentals, quarter notes, and half notes, and play it all with perfect technique. These fundamentals will help you pursue classical music, jazz, rock, pop, or anything else -- and you can even learn to write your own music.
After covering enough fundamentals, we can refocus your lessons to your specific interests and goals. A knowledge of scales and arpeggios will help you sight read Baroque music, while basic music theory knowledge will help your sound out Beatles songs by ear on the piano. We can also pick pieces of piano literature that we know you will love (and be challenged by), and we can coach you in more advanced music theory, songwriting, and other musical outlets. You will learn finger independence, wrist rotation, how to reach for high and low notes safely, and how to play without tension in the wrist and arms. We will also teach posture and foot placement. Students who play with great technique will be able to play more quickly, accurately, expressively, and safely, and you won't have to take a break in the future while your wrist heals.

Serving Villanova and the Surrounding Areas
Whether you live in Villanova, Radnor, or somewhere removed from the Main Line, we can find a time to travel to your home and teach private piano lessons to you or your children. We do not require that you have an acoustic piano at home (although 88 keys is advantageous), and we are happy to provide recommendations for grand pianos, upright instruments, and digital pianos. As long as you have a decent pedal, weighted keys, and at least 88 keys, you can play advanced piano music. Beginner and Advanced Piano We love helping beginners learn the piano, and we enjoy helping advanced pianists break through the skill plateau as well. If you are a more advanced pianist, we can talk about local MTNA competitions, AP Music Theory courses, college auditions, or other outlets. Or if you'd like to keep the piano purely as a hobby, we will tailor lessons accordingly. Whatever your needs at the piano may be, our teachers have the skill to help. |
