With kids, we help them learn how to practice, and we instill a genuine love for piano that will last a lifetime. For teens, we often build on their prior piano or musical knowledge – we can look for gaps in their technique, understanding of theory, or pursue their interests, like improvisation or composition. Adults often bring very specific goals to us. For instance, some want to play the music of a specific composer, a set of holiday tunes, or learn to understand music so they can enjoy trips to the Philadelphia Orchestra more deeply. We do not place undo pressure on our students, and our primary goal is for you to love the piano, and music in general. We don't force competitions onto our students, and participation in our recitals is optional (although our students love recitals, sharing music, and meeting other students). Your teacher will be warm and encouraging, and if you weren't able to practice much during a given week, we will still make the lesson rewarding and productive.
